Hassrick Residence 1958 ( with Thaddeus Longstreth)
Architect Richard Neutra designed the 1958 Hassrick house
in East Falls in the International Style. The house was designed for an artist, wife, and three
children.Neutra created a relaxed
and open space for a young family with three boys. Typical of his work during
the 1950?s and 1960?s, Neutra created a large space in the living room with
walls of glass, and fireplace pulled from the wall. The house was made inexpensively built and used local
materials such as Bethayers block. Soon after the houses completion, Neutra and
long time collaborator Thaddeus Longstreth designed a two-story addition for
the owners Bugatti. Finally a second addition of a ?foundry? was designed by local
architect Irwin Stein (although Longstreth was able to influence the placement).
